Measurement Guide
A smooth delivery starts long before the truck arrives. Taking a few minutes to measure your entry path and room layout ensures that your new piece can be delivered safely and placed exactly where you want it. This guide walks you through everything to check before placing an order and before your delivery day.
1. Measure Your Entry Path
Your item must be able to pass through each area from the delivery truck to the final room. Please measure all relevant points with care:
-
Front door width and height
-
Hallway width, including corners or turns
-
Staircase width, railing height, and landing space
-
Elevator door width and interior dimensions
-
Ceiling heights, beams, overhead lighting, or low fixtures
General guideline: The narrowest point along the path should be at least 2–3 inches (5–8 cm) wider than the item’s smallest dimension.
2. Measure the Room Where the Item Will Be Placed
Make sure the piece fits the space—both physically and visually.
Check the following:
-
Room width, depth, and ceiling height
-
Walkway clearance (we recommend at least 30" / 76 cm)
-
Placement relative to windows, outlets, and switches
-
Space needed to open drawers or doors (for casegoods)
Additional Notes for Lighting
-
Consider the relationship between fixture height and ceiling height.
-
Over a dining table, the bottom of a chandelier typically hangs 30"–36" (76–91 cm) above the tabletop.
-
Entryway fixtures must clear door openings and allow comfortable movement beneath them.
3. Review the Product Dimensions
Before ordering, please check all listed dimensions:
-
Width / depth / height
-
Packaging dimensions (if provided)
-
Weight (important for elevator capacity and stair transport)
-
Chain, rod, or drop-length measurements for lighting
If the item ships in multiple cartons, ensure each carton size can pass through your entry path.
4. Watch for Common Delivery Obstacles
Several tight spots tend to cause unexpected issues during delivery. Double-check the following:
-
Narrow corners in hallways
-
Low ceilings in stairwells
-
Railings, decorative moldings, or wall panels
-
Tight elevator doorways
-
Overhanging light fixtures or beams that restrict movement
5. Preparing for Delivery Day
To help the delivery team work efficiently and safely, please ensure:
-
All entry paths and the final room are cleared
-
Fragile décor items are moved aside
-
Pets are secured in another area
-
Floor protection is in place if desired
